Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Norman OK
201 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026
...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...
.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 201 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026
- Excessive heat is expected to persist through most of next
week. Time outdoors should be limited with plenty of lengthy
breaks and hydration.
&&
.NEAR TERM...
(Through Sunday)
Issued at 201 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026
Another rinse and repeat day today with the 598dam ridge over the
100th Meridian bringing warm subsidence to the forecast area.
Surface troughing will bring some low end breezy south winds.
Daytime dry air mixing will scour some of these 70s dewpoints
through the day today with slightly lower dews in the 60s.
Regardless, it will still feel hot and humid outside. Widespread
temperatures ranging from around 100 to 110 degrees with nearly
widespread heat indices of 105 to 110 degrees. A few localized hot
spot areas may rise above 110 degree heat indices. A Heat Advisory
will be in effect for the entire area, except Knox County, today
from 11 AM to 9 PM. Cloud cover will be little today with no relief
from the sun in this heat and zero chances for precipitation.
&&
.SHORT TERM...
(Sunday night through Tuesday night)
Issued at 201 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026
Very hot temperatures will continue into early next week with
continued widespread triple digit temperatures. Drier air will fill
in across the western portions of the area with slightly less humid
heat. However, with temperatures being so warm, heat headlines are
still likely to persist each day. With the drier air out west,
relative humidity values will drop into the teens and thanks to
continued heat and a lack of substantial rain, elevated fire weather
may return in the afternoon across portions of western Oklahoma
Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Precipitation chances will remain low
Monday and Tuesday. Northwesterly flow may return Tuesday and an
embedded shortwave could bring low chances for convection off the
higher terrain to move into northern Oklahoma late in the evening
and overnight hours.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday through Saturday)
Issued at 201 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026
The upper ridge will continue to expand westward through the latter
half of the upcoming week with the heat dome continuing to provide
widespread triple digit heat. Several shortwaves will pass to the
north of the ridge and being on the eastern periphery, northwesterly
flow in combination with the shortwaves may bring chances for
precipitation to portions of northern Oklahoma. By Friday, the upper
ridge will continue to retrograde westward into the Desert Southwest
with a stronger shortwave diving southward across the Central Plains
bringing a front through the forecast area Friday. Sadly this front
will only bring little relief to the temperatures with triple digit
heat still possible.

.AVIATION...
